Distinctive Unit Insignia

Description
A Gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned:  Per chevron nebuly Gules and Buff a bayonet palewise of the first surmounted by an anvil Sable.  Attached below the shield a Black scroll inscribed FORGE THE EDGE in Gold letters.

Symbolism
The colors buff (gold) and scarlet represent Support organizations.  The division of the shield, per chevron nebuly, further symbolizes support and alludes to association with Aviation.  The motto FORGE THE EDGE, is recalled by the charges, an anvil and bayonet.  The bayonet also denotes readiness and the mission of support to the individual soldier in the field.  Black signifies strength and solidarity, scarlet courage and sacrifice.

The distinctive unit insignia was approved effective 16 September 1996.
